Belgium
Belgium - officially the Kingdom of Belgium, is a federal state in Western Europe. The country covers an area of 11,787 sq. mi./30,528 sq. km, and has a population of around 11 million people. Straddling the cultural boundary between Germanic and Latin Europe, Belgium is home to two main linguistic groups, the Dutch-speakers (Flemish), and the French-speakers (Walloons), plus a small group of German-speakers. Belgium declared independence from the Netherlands in 1830 after the Belgian Revolution (independence recognized in 1839). Belgium is a constitutional, popular monarchy and a parliamentary democracy, with a King as the head of state. Belgium is one of the six founding member of the European Union (EU) and hosts the EU's headquarters, as well as, the international organization, North Atlantic Treaty Oreganization (NATO). Belgium is divided into 3 Regions (Brussels, Flanders, and Wallonia), with the latter two subdivided into 10 provinces).
