National Parks, Reserves, & Ruins - Ecuador
These images reveal the geology and flora from 9 of 10 National Parks of Ecuador, which are administered by MAE (Ministry of the Environment), which protects about 20% of Ecuador's land. Land comprising 3 regions : 1) Sierra - the Andes Highlands, whose terrain runs N to S in the central part of the country, this mountain is divided into 2 parallel ranges, the Cordillera Occidental and the taller and wider Cordillera Oriental. 2) Amazon - known as El Oriente or The East, which comprises almost 50% of Ecuador's landmass. 3) Coast - the lowlying western land and Pacific coastline.
A country with 7 eco-zones : Mangrove Forest, Tropical Dry Forest, Tropical Wet Forest, Andean Paramo or Montane Grasslands, Eastern Cordillera Montane Forest, Northwest Andean Montane Forest, and Amazonian Tropical Rainforest.
Also included are images of the Ingapirca Ruins (where originally the Canari, then the Inca cultures lived, the largest Inca ruins site in Ecuador) and the Pumapungo ruins in Cuenca city.
Experiences from a > 2,600 mi. (≈ 4,200 km) of driving and wonderful senderos throughout the 2nd smallest (≈ 107,000 sq. mi./277,000 sq.km) landmass country in South America, measuring about 445 mi.
