Mammals and Reptiles - Chile
Guanaco (Lama guanicoe) - a slender mammal with an integumentary system of a woolly coat that is a light reddish/brown on top, with white undersides and a gray to black head, and the area around the lips, the edges of the ears and the insides of the legs are also white, short tails, large heads, very long necks, and large pointed ears. Guanaco are the largest wild member of the camelid family in South America - growing to about 7.4 ft. (2.2 m) in body length - shoulder height at around 4 ft. (1.2 m) - tail length about 9 in. (23 cm) - and weighing up to around 275 lb. (125 kg) - these specimens among the Patagonia Steppe ecoregion vegetation - along the Sierra Balmaceda, just N. of the Bahia Inutil - northwest Isla Grande Tierra del Fuego - Magallanes region of southern Chile.
