Ruins - Perú
These images entail 18 ruins sites (excluding Machu Picchu and Wayna Picchu, see UNESCO sites) throughout 5 departments (Cusco, Puno, Ica, La Libertad, and Lambayeque) of Peru. Ruins from the Inca Empire - whose political state/territory was known as Tahuantinsuyu (The Four Provinces), which was centered in Cusco, and connected by a network of footpaths extended from nowdays the Columbia-Ecuador border, southward toTalca (at the Rio Maule) in central Chile. This Inca civilization existed from the 12th century, till the Spanish Conquest (1532-1572). Also included are images of pre-Inca ruins from the Lupaca, Wari, Kolla, Tiwanaku, Nazca, Moche and Chimu cultures.

Huaca del Sol (Sun Temple) - was constructed of four tiers and stands today about 130 ft. (40 m) tall - prior to erosion it stood over 33 ft. (10 m) taller - this mud brick and earthern plaster constructed ruin covered an area of approximately 525 ft. x 1,115 ft. (160 x 340 m). Here viewing from the Moon Temple, and across about .5 mi. (.8 km) wide urban area which housed an estimated 20,000 people of this capital city of the Moche culture. Nowdays just SE of Trujillo city - La Libertad department.
